Such is the multinational wonder of the Premier League that, even without one of the home nations in action, the supporter of an English football club will have plenty of interest to watch at this summer’s Euro 2008.

Traditionally a big international tournament has been a ’shop window’ for players and as the EPL is the biggest fattest window shopper in town, with the biggest fattest uncrunches (as yet) credit card on the block, Premier League managers will be scouting enthusiastically in Austria and Switzerland this June.

But, already in the Premier League pantry are a host of internationals whose national sides weren’t as poor as England. Goal has a nice list of them, and it’s obvious a lot of fans will take an allegiance from their favourite club players.

Liverpool fans will want Torres and Reina to prosper - but not to the extent that they damage themselves or become the subject of an offer which the club cannot refuse. Cesc Fabregas will be on Arsenal fans’ minds, and they too, will be worried about another young star moving away from the Emirates to seek better remuneration elsewhere.

Portugal - with the man they call Ron and plenty of Chelsea interest - are likely to attract detractors, particularly after England’s ill-tempered loss to the winking winger in the 2006 World Cup. Wayne Rooney may have forgiven his team mate but I’m not sure England fans are made of such magnanimous stuff.
