Grant shown door - has no non-professional interest in doors
Avram Grant has finally - and seemingly inevitably - been informed he’s not really Jose Mourinho after all.
There was a deal of sympathy for Grant on Radio 5Live’s 606 phone-in - presenter Steve Claridge had decided that Grant would have been shown the door (a fixture or fitting in which he is not known to have any recreational interest) even had John Terry planted his penalty in the top corner as he’d intended on Wednesday night.
Grant’s players - most reliably Didier Drogba, but this week Nicolas Anelka too, with his no-warm-up jibe after his shoot out penalty hit the great wall of Dutchman - haven’t always shown their boss unflinching loyalty.
But that seems to be part of the modern game. Losing the dressing room is now a public act of carelessness.
So eight months is it for Grant, who was subject to seven months and 30 days speculation about his soon-to-come firing.
Who’s up next into Roman’s rocket seat?
Well, the bookies say: Frank Rijkaard 6/4, Guus Hiddink 2/1, Mark Hughes 8/1, Luiz Felipe Scolari 10/1, Didier Deschamps 12/1.
These men are all advised to stay away from west London estate agents and Peter Kenyon (although that’s more generally applicable advice) if they wish to avoid their pictures being plastered all over the paper’s.
