Chelsea first to move in transfer market
After taking the Premier League title race to the last day, Chelsea have moved first in the summer transfer market, bagging Portuguese right back José Bosingwa for a reported £16.1 million from Porto.
Congolese-born Bosingwa, 25, was bought for Porto by Jose Mourinho, the out-of-work former Blues boss. Manchester United and Liverpool were reported to be interested in the international.
With a Champions League show-down with their Premier League rivals Manchester United in the offing, it’s a statement of intent from the Stamford League club.
But, who leaves Avram Grant’s squad, and whether Grant remains as first team boss, are just as important to shaping next season’s title race. Didier Drogba may re-join Mourinho when the Portuguese finds a new club, and up to eight players, including fringe performers like Shaun Wright-Phillips. If Steve Sidwell ever fancies kicking a football in meaningful action again he’s going to have to leave west London too.
